Vadodara: Hundreds of go-karting champions will burn the rubber on the tracks in the national go-karting championships at Erda's Speedway in Sindhrot on May 14.
The city will host the JK Tyre IndiKarting National Series at a 400-m track in Sevasi. It will be almost after 13 years that a national championship of go-karting will be held in the city. This is the third leg of the championship and those who perform well here will qualify for the next round.
"We want to promote the sport in Gujarat. We get many inquiries from here, so we decided to have one leg of the national championships in Vadodara. We have got good response," said Rayomand Banajee, director of RR Motorsports Management Ltd that has organized the race.
The championship is divided into 10 categories including pro-cadet, pro-junior, pro-senior, senior (open), senior (amateur), inter-school, women's, master's, corporate and senior (above 80 kgs). The pro races will have 20 laps each and for support categories there will be 16 laps. Banajee said that four stroke engine will be used in the races. National champions like Ricky Doniso, Mira Erda and R O Ravindra will participate in this race.
"This is an expensive sport and usually out of reach for common people. We want more citizens, especially youngsters, to take it up ," Banarjee added.
