160 students from city qualify for IITs
VADODARA: Around 160 students from the city have qualified to get into the prestigious IITs, IISc, IIST, the premier institutes of research, engineering and technology, as the results of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2018 were declared by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, the organizer of the exam, on Sunday.
Over 600 students from the city had appeared for the JEE (Advanced) this year after clearing JEE (mains).
A girl student – Meghana Missula – first from her family to get into a IIT, stole the show by emerging as the city topper, standing second in the state and emerging as one of the IIT Mumbai zone girls’ topper with All India Rank (AIR) 80.
“The results are pretty much as per my expectations. It was much of hard work and rigorous practice that have paid as I used to solve questions in particular time frame,” said Meghana, who scored 278 marks out of 360.
“I want to pursue computer science and later join a reputed multinational firm. But my aim may take a slightly different turn after entering IIT,” said Meghana, a student of Green Valley High School, whose father NVS Murthy, works as deputy general manager with GAIL India Limited, while mother M Shanti is a homemaker.
According to centre coordinators of FIITJEE Vadodara, Mangilal Jain and Priyank Bariar, students from their centre have bagged five ranks in top 1,000, 13 in top 2,000 and 25 in top 5,000 in JEE Advanced 2018.
“It is a matter of great honour that our centre has produced so many good ranks from a second-tier city like Vadodara,” said a cordinator of of FIITJEE Vadodara. While Ansh Bhatt has bagged AIR 571, Varun Jha has bagged AIR 712, Dhananjay Singh AIR 718 and Anand Brahmbhatt AIR 917.

While a student Prathmesh Dhoke has bagged AIR 372, Vedant Singh has bagged AIR 847 and Aman Agrawal AIR 987.
“As many as 81 regular classroom students from our centre have been selected which is the highest mass selection from a single coaching institute of Vadodara,” said IIT Ashram’s co-ordinator Devendra Kumar, adding that it is more than 63% of total selection from the city.
He added that total three students from the institute have scored category rank below 500.
While Badal Parmar has bagged category rank 62 in SC category, Mayur Rathwa has bagged category rank 332 in ST category and Purva Parmar has bagged category rank 479 in SC category.
Alark Fajalia, a Gujarati medium student of Utkarsh School, who had scored 99.61 percentile in class 12 board exams, has bagged AIR 1952 in general category.
Diti Sanghai, who was one of the four students who had topped in the city in science stream in CBSE class 12 with 97.6%, has bagged AIR 2396 in general category.
Gujarat Public School, Atladra informed that while one of their student Rudram Dushe has cleared the exam with AIR 1069, another student Pratim Majumdar has bagged AIR 2685.
