PM’s language ‘poisonous’: Jairam Ramesh

Udaipur: All India Congress Committee general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was perturbed after the first phase of polls and had adopted the path of polarisation. Speaking at a presser in Udaipur, Ramesh characterised the PM’s recent rhetoric as divisive and poisonous. He said that the PM considers himself a vishwaguru but the language that he has used in the last few days was not of vishwaguru but vishguru (poisonous).Ramesh underscored economic inequality as a central concern, pointing to Congress’s Nyaya Patra as evidence of the government’s failure to address disparities. He said that due to policies of the Modi govt, only a few industrialist friends of the PM were getting benefits of economic development and not everyone.Turning his attention to the BJP’s slogan of 400-plus seats, Ramesh contended that these slogans mask the party’s true agenda of reshaping the Constitution. He emphasised the pivotal role of the INDI Alliance in determining election outcomes, framing the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as a battleground for preserving constitutional principles.Expressing dismay over the absence of a 2021 Census, Ramesh highlighted its importance in accurately assessing the size of marginalized communities. Addressing queries about the Ram temple issue, he said that “we are worshipers of Ram and not traders of Ram like BJP.” “We are fighting elections to save social security, inflation, unemployment and the Constitution,” he said.Targeting the PM, he said that Modi ji had not gone to Manipur for the last one year.
