5 hurt in leopard attack at village in Udaipur

Udaipur: A leopard left five people, including a woman and two forest workers, injured after straying into a village in Udaipur district on Thursday evening.“The incident took place at Boria village of Sinhad panchayat in Bhinder block, 5 km away from Bambora. The injured villagers were rushed to MB Hospital in Udaipur, where they are under treatment. Bhinder SDM Parvat Singh, tehsildar Sunita Sankhla and Kheroda police station officer Rameng Patidar coordinated efforts being made by the forest department to catch the leopard. The animal was tranquillised around 10pm and transported to the biological park in Udaipur,” said DFO Ajay Chittaura. The predator had made its way to a populated area and set off fear and chaos among villagers who ran to the rooftops to save themselves, said officials. When the villagers tried to drive away the leopard, it pounced on a group of them. Two forest personnel who had arrived to help catch the leopard were among five people who were left injured by the animal. Officials said the leopard had strayed into the village in the evening and kept sauntering through the village lanes for nearly two hours. In its bid to escape the commotion, it resorted to attacking five people before slipping into an abandoned house nearby. When the villagers raised an alarm, teams from the district administration, police and the forest department rushed to the scene late in the evening.
