Women posing as health staff steal gold from elderly woman in Trichy

Trichy: Two unidentified women under the guise of health department staff have stolen two gold chains weighing six sovereigns in total from a 72-year-old woman near Big Bazaar street in Trichy.

Police identified the victim as R Mangammal, from Kasiyapillai Street near Kallatheru. On Wednesday, when she was home alone, two unknown women visited the home and introduced themselves as health workers. After a brief conversation, they asked water to drink. As Mangammal went to the kitchen, the women stole two gold chains weighing 3.5 sovereigns and 2.5 sovereigns kept in a box and fled the house. Trichy Fort police registered a case on Thursday and are investigating.
