Cauvery Management Board

(CMB).

A group of party cadre gathered near the new bus stand located on the outskirts of the city and raised slogans against the Centre. They accused the Modi government of playing a double game regarding the Cauvery issue.

Five of them climbed on a cellphone tower and raised slogans against the government. A police team from the medical college limit, who reached the place, pacified them and managed to bring them down. Police arrested TVK district secretary R Appakannu, district treasurer P Kasinathan, union secretary Palanivel, union president S Ganesan and town youth wing secretary S Karthi.

Meanwhile, another group of cadre attempted to burn a BJP flag at the old bus stand, accusing Prime Minister Modi of betraying the farming community in Tamil Nadu by allegedly defying the Supreme Court’s order regarding CMB.

The Thanjavur West police rushed to the place and stopped the group from burning the flag. Police also arrested 10 of the cadre, including district youth wing secretary Prabhu, area secretary Suresh and urban organiser Kumaran.

Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) has also decided to stage a demonstration against the Centre in Chennai on Saturday. In a statement, party leader S Ramadoss has requested the cadre to participate in the protest.
