Sastra hosts lecture on Saiva philosophy, Indian epistemology

Trichy: The School of Arts, Sciences, Humanities, and Education (SASHE) at Sastra Deemed University, in collaboration with the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR) under the Union Ministry of Education, organized the Periodic Lecture Series 2024, commemorating the contributions of Saiva Samaya Kuravar to Indian philosophy.Coordinated by Dr R Jayasree (department of education) and Dr Thiyagarajan (department of Sanskrit and religious studies), the event featured discussions on Saiva Siddhanta and broader philosophical traditions.Dr Shanmuga Selva Ganapathy, former principal of Rajah's College, Thiruvaiyaru, highlighted the foundational role of Appar, Sambandar, Sundarar, and Manikavasagar in shaping Saiva Siddhanta philosophy and their enduring influence on Tamil spiritual and literary traditions.Expanding the discourse, Dr V Balaji, head of the Sanskrit department at National College, Trichy, delivered a lecture on ‘The Importance of Saankhya Epistemology for Scientific Knowledge Acquisition and Validation.' The final session featured Dr K S Sivakumar, who examined ‘Practical Wisdom in the Bhagavad Gita and Its Application in Modern Life.'
