Man attacks 3 with sickle, surrenders to police

Mayiladuthurai: A 25-year-old man who attacked three members of a family, including a woman and a minor boy, with a sickle in Mayiladuthurai on Sunday morning surrendered before police shortly after the incident.

Police said Ashok attacked Karpagam, 42, from Kumbakonam, when she was collecting water from a public tap. She sustained multiple cut injuries. Her husband Selvam, a gold appraiser at a bank, and their 14-year-old son, were also attacked when they tried to stop Ashok. The assault was triggered by one such altercation on Sunday morning.

All three victims were initially admitted to the govt hospital in Mayiladuthurai. Karpagam, who suffered serious injuries, was later referred to the Thanjavur govt hospital.

Following the incident, Ashok surrendered at the Mayiladuthurai police station. Police subsequently took him to the GH for medical examination. They registered a case and are investigating.
