Labour dept assistant inspector arrested in Trichy for taking bribe

TRICHY: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), Trichy detachment, arrested an assistant inspector of the labour department for accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a legal advisor of a private company on Wednesday.

The arrested assistant inspector has been identified as B Karthik. A DVAC team lead by deputy superintendent of police (DSP) G Manikandan caught Karthik, 30, red-handed while taking a bribe of 15,000 from N Manoharan, 37, who is a legal advisor of a private company in Cantonment.

DVAC police said Karthik carried out an inspection at the company in Cantonment on March 15, 2023 and issued a notice stating that the company failed to maintain documents with regard to manpower. When Manoharan submitted all the documents, defending that the company maintained the papers properly, Karthik told him that all other companies had been giving them bribes regularly while this company had failed. Karthik asked Manoharan to give him Rs 15,000 on behalf of the company.

Unwilling to give him the bribe, Manoharan lodged a complaint with the DVAC, which laid a trap and caught Karthik.
