It was performed in the presence of the tahsildar of Kattumannarkovil, Tamilselvan and KK Nagar police inspector R Sahaya Anbarasu in the afternoon. The exhumation of the body was necessitated after the KK Nagar police registered a case of suspicious death based on the complaint from his relatives that de-addiction centre staff beat him which weakened his health. He was admitted for de-addiction treatment in the centre from May 28 and was declared brought dead when was taken to a private hospital in Trichy on June 1. The body was buried on June 2.

The relatives alleged that the since the postmortem could not bring to light the reason for the cause of death, the doctors took the viscera and sent them to regional forensic laboratory in Villupuram. The body was buried again after postmortem.
