Trichy: Registrations for various training programmes such as public speaking and leadership development offered to volunteers who have joined former BJP state president K Annamalai’s new political movement, ‘We The Leaders’, have been temporarily put on hold due to an overwhelming response. It was announced that a public speaking training programme would be held in Karur district from June 19 to 21 for volunteers. A source in the movement said the programmes, which have been conducted over the past few years, have seen a surge in registrations after Annamalai announced the movement following his exit from the BJP on June 5.The movement, which had around 18,000 volunteers on Day 1, has more than 16 lakh volunteers now. “On May 29, a coordinator from Aravakurichi announced the public speaking programme. Following the launch of the movement, we received an overwhelming number of registrations. We are now streamlining and revamping the programmes to accommodate increased participation and plan the necessary logistics. While volunteer registrations will continue, the training programmes are likely to resume in a revamped format after July,” the source said.Meanwhile, Annamalai said rumours are being spread by organisations which he said his movement has no connection. “People should not use my name or photo. Our efforts which have been started with a good purpose will be diluted by illegitimate acts of a few,” he said on X.
