Yazna’s death: CB team records family’s statement

T'puram: The crime branch (CB) team headed by ACP Rex Boby Aravin which is probing the mysterious death of Varkala native Yazna, 30, in Sharjah last year, recorded the statements of her family on Tuesday. The team issued a lookout circular against her husband and alerted Interpol to deport him for interrogation.Yazna was found hanging in the bathroom of her house in Sharjah, and her parents raised suspicion about role of her husband in the death, as there were several injuries on her body. Her husband, Shamnad, 36, beat her up earlier too, demanding more dowry, her family said."My daughter would not have committed suicide. She might have been killed by her husband and hanged. Three hours before her death, she had video called us and we noticed some swelling on her face. However, she was not willing to disclose what had happened," said Ibrahim, Yazna's father.Yazna of Odayam, married Shamnad of Kavaliyoor in 2016. Roughly six months before her death in March, 2023, she moved to the Gulf with her five-year-old son to live with Shamnad, who was a resident there. The family said there were some mismatches in the autopsy held in Sharjah and here. "In the postmortem report from Sharjah, the cause of her death was termed suicide by hanging and there was no mention of the injuries on her body. However, the forensic surgeons here found several injuries on her body in the postmortem. Shamnad and his family have not even contacted us after the incident," said Ibrahim.On the complaint of the family, Ayiroor police registered a case in March itself and began a probe.
