THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Shashi Tharoor, the current Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram, is aiming for a fourth consecutive victory in the Lok Sabha elections. In his recent nomination papers, Tharoor disclosed assets exceeding Rs 55 crore and a total income of over Rs 4.32 crore for the financial year 2022-2023.

Tharoor said he has movable assets of over Rs 49 crore that includes deposits of varying amounts in 19 bank accounts and investments in various bonds, debentures, mutual funds, among others, he has said in his affidavit.

Additionally, he disclosed owning 534 grams of gold valued at Rs 32 lakh and Rs 36,000 in cash. Tharoor's immovable assets surpass Rs 6.75 crore, comprising a share in agricultural land, a substantial land holding in Thiruvananthapuram, and his residence.

The Congress MP owns two cars, a Maruti Ciaz and a Maruti XL6, the affidavit said. Tharoor, known for his academic achievements, is currently embroiled in nine cases across the country, including allegations of promoting enmity between groups and involvement in unlawful assembly and rioting.

Furthermore, he is facing court cases for defamation in Kerala, Delhi, and Kolkata. Notably, Tharoor's asset declaration has shown substantial growth over the years, from over Rs 23 crore in 2014 to over Rs 35 crore in 2019. Despite the legal challenges, Tharoor remains focused on his political aspirations in Thiruvananthapuram.
