Parcel service employee found dead near railway track in Varkala
T’puram: A 45-year-old parcel service employee was found dead near a railway track at Edava, Varkala on Sunday morning. The deceased, Madhu, was from Ottapalam, Palakkad.
According to police, locals noticed the body lying near the railway gate around 9.30am and alerted the authorities. Personnel from Varkala-Ayiroor police station reached the spot and carried out inquest proceedings and other legal formalities.
Police said the exact cause of death is yet to be determined. However, preliminary findings suggest that Madhu may have fallen from a moving train during a journey and suffered fatal injuries. Investigators are examining all possible circumstances surrounding the incident.
A case was registered under the provisions relating to unnatural death, and further investigation is under way. Police officers said the postmortem examination and other evidence collected during the probe will help establish the sequence of events leading to the death.
Following the completion of formalities at the scene, the body was shifted to Govt Medical College Hospital, Parippally, for postmortem examination.
Police are also trying to gather details about Madhu’s recent movements and the train journey he was reportedly undertaking before the incident. Statements from witnesses, locals and railway authorities are expected to be recorded as part of the investigation.
Further action will be taken based on the postmortem findings and the outcome of the ongoing inquiry, police said.
