Nithin Raj’s father: Cops shielding accused

Thiruvananthapuram: The father of Nithin Raj, the BDS student who fell to death at Kannur Dental College, Anjarakandy, has levelled serious allegations against police over the investigation into his son's death.Y L Rajan accused police and the govt of colluding to shield the accused, alleging that officials have failed to take a supportive stance in the probe. He claimed that one of the accused, Dr K T Sangeetha Nambiar, was given a warm reception at the police station, and no efforts were made to apprehend another key accused, Dr M K Ram.Rajan further alleged that police have refused to provide crucial documents and CCTV footage related to the case, preventing the family from approaching the court. "We have not even been given preliminary documents. Without these, we cannot proceed legally," he said, adding that he was shown only limited footage from the principal's room.Stating that he has been visiting the offices of senior police officer, including the DIG and the city police commissioner, for the past six days, Rajan said his family is being denied justice. "Instead of justice, my son is facing injustice," he said.He also accused police of attempting to derail the investigation by withholding evidence and protecting those responsible. The family, he said, will continue their fight until justice is delivered. Nithin was found critically injured on the college campus after falling from a building On April 10. He was later declared dead at the hospital. Recently, state police chief Ravada A Chandrasekhar had handed over the investigation into the case of unnatural death of Nithin to crime branch along with a separate case related to an alleged loan app, from which the student had reportedly taken a loan.Earlier, Thalassery additional sessions court-IV had denied anticipatory bail to Dr Ram. The college authorities had also issued orders dismissing Ram from service after several complaints of torturing students came out.
