Thiruvananthapuram: The cardiology department of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital successfully conducted an angioplasty on a 65-year-old man hailing from poor financial background.
He is currently recovering at the intensive care unit, according to a press note issued by the hospital.
The patient suffered from a serious heart disease called calcific coronary stenosis. The medical team used an advanced intravascular lithotripsy to do angioplasty on the patient and saved his life.
As per the release, the procedure would have cost Rs 5 lakh in a private hospital and this procedure was done free of cost with the support of the social security wing.
Cardiology department head Dr K Sivaprasad, Dr Praveen, Dr Lekshmi Thampi, Dr Simna, Dr Ratheesh, Dr Ambady, Dr Nagendran were part of the medical team.
