Manjalikulam Ground set for major facelift
Thiruvananthapuram: A pathway, an archway entrance and restructured compound walls with high transparent fencing are expected to be implemented within a month at
The ground usually gets flooded during rains which prevent usage until the water dries out. Ward councillor M V Jayalekshmi assured that a meeting would be called soon to analyse the situation and provide solutions.
The renovation work is a two-year project that is scheduled to finish construction by late March. “The pathway has been successfully completed. The residents can use it for morning and evening walks. There were also damages to many parts of the compound walls. We have lowered the walls and high fencing will be installed soon in a bid to check garbage disposal. The work of entrance arch is going on and will be completed soon. The project will hopefully be finished by Mid-April,” she said
V K Ajith Kumar, working president of Thampanoor residents’ welfare association (TRWA), said the development would solve many issues like illegal waste disposal as well as check anti-social activities at the ground. “We were one of the first to demand a revamp as the ground was being largely misused by anti-social elements. Tall grass and bush at many parts of the ground and high compound walls gave ample cover for such activities. Since the walls were high, patrolling police vehicles could not see what was going inside the ground,” he said.
