All 3 fronts confident of win after early campaign
Thiruvananthapuram: With 41 days remaining for Lok Sabha elections in the state on April 26, all three major political fronts are exuding confidence that they have ample time for campaigning. As they had declared their candidates much ahead of the poll date announcement, most candidates have completed their first round of campaigning in their constituencies.
It was expected that elections would be held in the last week of April just like the last time (April 23), said CPM state secretary M V Govindan. “All LDF candidates are already in the field and with the aim of winning all 20 seats. In the coming days, they will be intensifying the campaign,” he said.
The performance of both central and state govts will be reviewed in the Lok Sabha elections, said Govindan. “People will definitely be reviewing the performance of both govts. What is the doubt in that? The people of the state are well aware of the difficulties state govt faces due to the financial restrictions imposed by the Centre. People will be giving their mandate against this attitude of the Centre,” he said.
Reiterating that the main contest in the state is between LDF and UDF, Govindan said, “Even though Narendra Modi is claiming double digit seats from Kerala, BJP is not going to get even a single seat.”
Opposition leader V D Satheesan said all UDF candidates are set for the elections and they have started campaigning in their respective constituencies. “UDF is going to win all 20 seats since the election would be a verdict against the central and state govts,” he said.
“People of Kerala will rally behind Indian National Congress since they want to see Modi ousted from power. Moreover, they are burdened with the anti-people policies of LDF govt. Delay in providing welfare pensions, overburdened with tax proposals, lack of essential commodities in SupplyCo outlets, increase in water and power tariffs, deteriorating law and order situation, etc, will reflect in the elections,” he added.
BJP state president K Surendran said April 26 is going to be the most decisive day for the people of Kerala since they are going to disown both LDF and UDF. “NDA is going to create a major wave in the state by winning a few crucial seats. As Narendra Modi is going to score a hattrick win at the Centre, Kerala will also become part of the Centre for the first time in history,” he said.
“Modi’s guarantee is the topic of discussion in the state and hence the people of Kerala are well aware that it is time to stand with Modi. The Lok Sabha polls in the state is going to be the reward for the development activities carried out by the Modi govt,” he added.
