THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: For the first time,
All-India Congress Committee
(
AICC
) bestowed the charge of district Congress Committee (
DCC
) presidents to a group of youngsters.
The new presidents are: Neyyattinakra Sanal – Thiruvananthapuram, Bindhu Krishna – Kollam, Babu George – Pathanamthitta, M Lijju – Alappuzha, Joshy Philip – Kottayam, T J Vinod – Ernakulam, T N Prathapan – Thrissur, Ibrahim Kutty Kallar – Idukki, V V Prakash – Malappuram, V K Sreekandan – Palakkad, T Siddique – Kozhikode, Staheeshan Pacheni – Kannur, I C Balakrishnan – Wayanad and Hakkim Kunnel – Kasaragod. Also, all of them are first timers as DCC chiefs.
The AICC had the final say in selecting the new nominees from the list submitted by the members of the political affairs committee of the KPCC. However, `A’ group nominees P C Vishnunath, a trusted lieutenant of former chief minister
Oommen Chandy and state Youth Congress president Dean Kuriakose were not considered. Sources said that Vishnunath may be appointed as the AICC secretary.
Prathapan and Prakash were nominated by V M Sudheeran while K C Venugopal’s nominee became the Thiruvananthapuram chief. The ‘A’ group got four presidents while ‘I’ got seven.
