City’s major outer ring road project gains momentum

T'puram: The Union govt has taken significant steps toward expediting the Vizhinjam-Navaikulam outer ring road (ORR) project in Kerala, according to minister of state for road transport and highways, Ajay Tamta. In a letter addressed to Attingal MP Adoor Prakash, Tamta confirmed that key land acquisition processes under the National Highways Act, 1956, are progressing.
The notification under Section 3A was completed, while the notification under Section 3D, covering 35% of the required land, was also issued. The remaining land acquisition is currently being processed by the Competent Authority for Land Acquisition in the city. Tamta further assured that compensation payments to landowners will begin once the declaration of awards under Section 3G is completed and the project receives final nod.
This response comes after Prakash raised concerns in the Lok Sabha on Dec 3 regarding the urgency of the project's completion. The Vizhinjam-Navaikulam ORR is expected to improve connectivity and ease congestion in the state, particularly around the Vizhinjam International Seaport. With land acquisition moving forward, stakeholders are hopeful that the project will progress swiftly. TNN
