Census 2027: Self-enumeration facility 0pens June 16; first-phase survey in T’Puram from July 1
T’puram: The residents in the capital district will be able to submit their household details online as part of Census 2027 through a self-enumeration facility that will be available from June 16 to June 30, ahead of the commencement of the first phase of census operations, a statement from district administration said on Monday.
The self-enumeration initiative allows any adult family member to complete the census questionnaire online using a mobile phone or computer, reducing the time required for door-to-door data collection by enumerators.
According to census authorities, the first phase of Census 2027, which includes house listing and housing census operations, will be conducted from July 1 to July 30. In Thiruvananthapuram, enumerators will visit households to collect information on residential buildings, housing conditions and related details using a dedicated mobile application.
As part of the exercise, enumerators will prepare layout maps of each house listing block, marking buildings and major landmarks. A house listing block typically covers a section of a panchayat or municipal ward with a population of around 700 to 800 people. The first phase of the census comprises 34 questions covering various aspects of housing and household characteristics.
Officials urged residents to make use of the self-enumeration facility before enumerators begin field visits. To avail the facility, citizens must register through the online census portal, verify their details through an OTP, identify the exact location of their residence on a digital map and answer the questions displayed on the portal.
Upon successful submission, users will receive an 11-digit self-enumeration (SE) ID via SMS and email. The ID must be presented to the enumerator during the household visit for verification and completion of the census process.
Authorities clarified that certain details, including building number, census house number, census house usage and household number, need not be entered by residents during self-enumeration. These particulars will be recorded by enumerators during their field visits.
With Thiruvananthapuram witnessing rapid urban expansion alongside a large rural population spread across its panchayats, census officials expect the online self-enumeration option to improve data accuracy and streamline the enumeration process. Residents will have an opportunity to make corrections or update information when enumerators visit their homes, the statement noted.
Census 2027 exercise is being conducted in two phases nationwide, with the second phase focusing on population enumeration after the completion of the house listing and housing census.
