Athletes from state children’s homes shine at national meet

Thiruvananthapuram: Children from the state won six gold, three silver and two bronze medals in the national arts and sports festival for children of childcare institutions (

Hausla 2019

) organized by the

ministry of women and child development

.

In the festival in which children from 22 states participated, from Kerala, 29 children from various government homes participated.

Manikantan from government children’s home for boys, Kaniyampara, Wayanad, bagged gold in 100 and 200m hurdles and bronze in relay.

C H Akash from government children’s home for boys, Vellimadukunnu, Kozhikode (debate), C H Appu from government children’s home, Ramavarmapuram, Thrissur (high-jump under 14 years), Jose Christy from government children’s home for boys, Thiruvananthapuram (high-jump under 16 years) and Sujith Sunil from government children’s home, Ramavarmapuram, Thrissur (high-jump under 18 years) also bagged gold medals.

Reeja from government children’s home, Kakkanad, Ernakulam (200m for girls under 18 years), Priya Mohan from government children’s home for girl, Vellimadukunnu, Kozhikode (200m for girls under 16 years) and the team consisting of Aswathi, Aishwarya, Priya Mohan and Reeja (for 4 x 100m relay) won silver medals.
