THANE: Former India cricketer and Mumbai Ranji team coach Sulakshan Kulkarni has appealed to the local cricketing fraternity to take initiative for bringing Ranji Trophy matches to the lake city.
He expressed displeasure over the lack of infrastructure to hold Ranji Trophy matches here, while talking to young cricketers at the recently concluded 35th NT Kelkar Memorial inter-school cricket tournament at Dadoji Konddev stadium.
In the final match, K C Gandhi Vidyalaya of Kalyan beat S B Joshi High School of Dombivli to lift the trophy. Former MLC Sanjay Kelkar, who was the chief organizer, along with Kulkarni, former Ranji player Tukaram Surve, IPL player Pravin Tambe and international umpire Piloo Reporter gave away the prizes. The tournament was organized under the aegis of Mumbai Cricket Association and sponsored by the Thane Municipal Corporation.
K C Gandhi Vidyalaya batted first and scored 238 for 7 wickets. Amol Panchal chipped in with 95 runs and Siddhesh Sawant scored 40. For S B Joshi High School, Rohit Kaushal was able to bag three wickets for 35 runs. In reply,
S B Joshi School was bundled out for 114 with Abhijit More scoring 26 runs. Yash Deshmane and Vedant Khambe took three and two wickets, respectively.Bhavin Darja of S B Joshi High School took home the man of the series award. Abhijeet More and Vedant Khambe -both from K C Gandhi Vidyalaya, were declared best batsman and best bowler of the tournament respectively.
