THANE: Police have seized a tanker carrying 25,000 litres of diesel worth around Rs 24.5 lakh that was allegedly being transported illegally in Maharashtra’s Thane district, official said.
The action was taken on Thursday afternoon near the Kharigaon toll naka on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway. Following the seizure, police registered a case against eight persons, including the tanker owner and driver.
According to officials, the tanker was intercepted during a routine inspection carried out by the state government’s supplies department. During the check, authorities found that the vehicle was transporting diesel without the valid permit and mandatory authorisation required for carrying petroleum products.
Officials suspect the fuel may have been linked to a black-market supply network. Investigators are now trying to trace the source and intended destination of the diesel consignment.
No arrests have been made in the case so far.
