Thieves continue to target people with cellphones
Surat: One more mobile phone worth Rs 12,500 was snatched from a person by a thief in the city on Sunday. This time the victim is a 56-year-old man, who is a resident of a housing society on L P Savani Road. City police are yet to detect seven mobile thefts that were reported from Limbayat and Puna areas of Surat last week. It is suspected that same persons are involved in all these incidents.
Dinesh Shah was going home on his scooter at around 6.15 pm on November 15 when his phone was snatched. Two unidentified persons on a motorcycle accosted Shah on Chandrashekhar Azad bridge and snatched his phone before escaping. The miscreants had charged the victim with not riding the two-wheeler properly and picked the phone from his shirt pocket and escaped.
Rajesh Hirpara was riding his motorcycle on Bhathena bridge at around 7 pm last week when an unidentified person came on another vehicle and rammed into him from front direction. There was an argument between the two riders and later Hirpara realized that his mobile phone worth Rs 12,750 was missing. He had kept it in his shirt pocket. Paresh Surti lost his mobile phone worth Rs 9,000 in a similar way in Godadara. Chandrakant Bhagat, too, lost his mobile phone worth Rs 15,900 near Godadara canal. Bhimsingh Patil’s mobile phone worth Rs 7,999 was stolen near Ambedkar Vasahat Road. A two-wheeler dashed against Husain Chishti’s vehicle near Nilgiri Circle and before he could realize, the unidentified person had escaped with his mobile phone.
