Manali-Leh highway snowfall

The Manali-Leh highway has been shut down beyond Darcha in the Lahaul-Spiti district due to heavy snowfall in the higher regions of Himachal Pradesh.

Police issues advisory

Lahaul-Spiti police have issued an advisory, urging tourists not to venture beyond Darcha due to recent heavy snowfall and a significant decrease in temperature, rendering the roads unsafe for travel.

Cold conditions

According to police, the highway past Darcha, particularly at Shinku-La and Baralacha Pass, has turned dangerously slippery. Cold conditions have caused ice to form on the road, making it treacherous for travel.

Security

Two police posts at Chandratal and Sarchu have also been removed by the Lahaul-Spiti police after the recent snowfall. The police post at Darcha will continue to function.

Winter-like conditions

As the winter approaches, people associated with travel business in Lahaul-Spiti district have also started winding up and are leaving the district.
