Three killed in Garo Hills landslides

Shillong: Three persons, including a child,were killed in landslides triggered by incessant rain in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills district on Friday, an official statement said.“Tura landslides are under control and rains have subsided. One team of SDRF from Tura is on route to Dalu but are stuck in a landslide. The road is being cleared and as soon as it does, the team will proceed to Dalu,” the statement said. As per reports received at Tura SDRF division headquarters, one PHC (primary health centre) was submerged in water in Silkigre.“The BDO of Chokpot confirmed that roads towards Silkigre are inaccessible currently. Staff and people stranded in the PHC are being helped by villagers. One team of SDRF from Divisional HQ Garo Hills was en route but advised to instead remain on standby at Tura itself till the water level subsides,” the official statement said.One team of SDRF from Shillong has been sent to support the Tura SDRF and to remain there in standby till further orders, the statement said. It added that civil defence, police, fire & emergency services, municipal board have also been activated to tackle the situation.

Six players from Nepal football academy missing after landslide

Six players from the ANFA academy in Makwanpur district are missing after a deadly landslide during heavy rains. The incident happened in Indrasarowar as they were relocating to a safer area. Search efforts are ongoing while other players have been safely moved. Rain-induced landslides have also obstructed highways in 28 locations.
