Probe into Ichamati killings

Shillong: A police probe has been launched into the killing of two persons in the border village of Ichamati, East Khasi Hills district, on Wednesday, though no arrest has been made in this connection till the filing of this report.“We have strong leads on some individuals who we suspect to have committed the crimes at Ichamati. However, no arrests have been made so far,” East Khasi Hills SP Rituraj Ravi said in a statement issued on Thursday.The bodies of Esan Singh and Sujit Dutta were found on Wednesday evening at Ichamati and Dalda respectively after an anti-CAA rally was organised by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) along with other pressure groups at Ichamati.“We are investigating the crime. We urge everyone to maintain peace and abide by the rule of law,” he added.Meanwhile, the bodies of the victims were brought to the Civil Hospital, Shillong, on Thursday for post mortem.The SP had said on Wednesday that teams from local police station and additional teams from Shillong are camping at the site.
