Govt notifies 2 heritage sites in East Khasi Hills

Shillong: The Meghalaya government has notified two sites in East Khasi Hills as heritage ones on a preliminary basis – a neolithic tool site at Myrkhan and megalithic monuments at Nongkseh. It issued the notification on October 25 exercising powers under the Meghalaya Heritage Act 2023. Myrkhan is close to Elephant Falls in Upper Shillong. An archaeological excavation has been going on at the site for the last 10 years, which has uncovered several ancient stone tools. There is a proposal to build a museum to display the tools found at Myrkhan.On the other hand, Nongkseh has ancient megaliths that were used as stalls by traders at an old market called Iew Rynghep.“Objection to the issue of this notification, if any, received within thirty days from the date of issue of this notification will be considered by the government,” the notification issued by the state department of culture said.

Notification issued for Madhya Pradesh assembly polls; process of filing nominations begins

The process of filing nominations for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh assembly elections has begun. The elections will be held on November 17, with the counting of votes on December 3. Over 5.60 crore voters are eligible to vote, with 2,88,25,607 male voters, 2,72,33,945 female voters, and 1,373 others belonging to the third gender. The Congress has announced candidates on 229 seats, while the ruling BJP has declared candidates on 136 seats. In the 2018 elections, the Congress formed a coalition government but collapsed after 15 months, leading to the BJP returning to power.

OSSSC CRE 2023 notification out for 2712 vacancies, registration begins October 26

The Odisha Subordinate Staff Selection Commission has announced the Combined Recruitment Examination 2023, with a total of 2712 vacancies for Livestock Inspector, Forester, and Forest Guard positions. The registration will be open from October 26 to November 20, 2023. Eligibility criteria include specific educational qualifications and age limits. The written examination is expected to take place in February 2024, with no examination fees applicable for this recruitment.

What it takes to rebuild heritage: Restoration of Ramgarhia Bunga may serve as a cornerstone for all historical Sikh sites

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has completed the first phase of the restoration of the Ramgarhia Bunga, a historic building near the Golden Temple in Amritsar. The 250-year-old structure was built by Sikh leader Jassa Singh Ramgarhia and suffered heavy damage over the years. The restoration process aimed to replicate the original processes, using Nanakshahi bricks set in lime-and-mud mortar. The SGPC plans to open a museum inside the bunga and potentially restore the inaccessible second and third underground levels in the future.
