Meghalaya marks Kali Puja with fervour

Shillong: Diwali and Kali Puja were celebrated with traditional fervour and joy across Meghalaya. Idols of Kali were immersed in various water bodies on Friday, following worship on Thursday night. Governor CH Vijayashankar and chief minister Conrad K Sangma extended festive greetings to the people.People thronged various Kali Puja pandals across the state, with the state capital receiving a large number of visitors on Diwali vacation. Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Frontier of the BSF, including troops deployed at the international border, celebrated Diwali. BSF commanders spent time with the troops, conveying heartfelt Diwali greetings and appreciating their unwavering commitment to their mission. They extended warm wishes for peace, prosperity, and strength, acknowledging the unique challenges faced by border personnel who vigilantly guard the nation. The dedication of BSF troops exemplifies their strength, resilience, and patriotism. “We are proud of each individual who protects our borders,” the BSF statement added.

More trains for kali Puja and Diwali

To manage the festive rush during Kali Puja and Diwali, Eastern Railway's Sealdah division will run additional suburban trains on Thursday and Friday nights. Special trains will operate on routes including Sealdah to Dankuni, Barasat, Ranaghat, and Baruipur. Over 100 special trains will also run across various cities.
