Decomposed body of Bangladesh leader Ishaque Ali Khan Panna found in Meghalaya
“On the evening of August 26, one unknown male dead body in a semi decomposed state was found lying in a betel nut plantation located in Dona Bhoi area of East Jaintia Hills, which is approximately 1.5km from the India-Bangladesh border. A Bangladesh passport bearing the name of Shri Ishaque Ali Khan Panna was recovered from the dead body,” the SP said in a statement.
After observing all the formalities at the place of occurence, the body was shifted to Khliehriat Civil Hospital in the district for post-mortem examination. The body has since been kept in the morgue at the hospital for identification and claiming of the same, the SP said, adding “we are also taking up the matter with the deputy commissioner so that the relatives can identify the body.”
Panna was the general secretary of Chhatra League, the student wing of Awami League.
Bangladesh media had on August 25 said the student leader died in Meghalaya after fleeing his country. Reports also said a relative of Panna had said the latter had slipped from a ‘hill in Shillong’ and died of a heart attack while the information received by another relative was that he entered Meghalaya through Tamabil in Sylhet close to Dawki.
The police chiefs of both West and East Jaintia Hills districts and the BSF Meghalaya Frontier had then denied having any information regarding the matter.
Police constables body found after 3 days
The National Disaster Response Force found the body of 20-year-old police constable Anushka Kedar in Golegaon, three days after she jumped into the Indrayani river in Alandi. Discovered 8km from Alandi, her identity was confirmed by her police uniform. An accidental death case has been registered, and further investigations are pending.

The Meghalaya government, under Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, seeks to develop New Shillong City into a sports hub with a football academy and modern infrastructure. Plans include hosting national games and nurturing Olympic athletes. The state seeks Rs 1,000 crore in financial assistance to support these initiatives, aiming to make Meghalaya a key player in India's sports landscape.
Bodies of two girls found hanging from tree in UP
The bodies of two teenage girls, aged 15 and 18, were discovered hanging from a tree in Fatehgarh, Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. Both girls were found with their necks tied to dupattas. While initial investigations suggest double suicide, authorities await post-mortem results. A mobile phone and SIM card have been sent for analysis to gather more information.
