SHILLONG: A total of 130 people tested positive for
Covid-19 in Meghalaya
, while one succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours. Chief minister Conrad Sangma, who had tested positive for Covid earlier, received his
second jab on Monday
and stressed on vaccination against the viral disease.
“I appeal to those eligible to take their vaccine shots in centres near them,” the CM tweeted.
“As you are aware the numbers are still high and we still see positive rate is one of the highest in the past 12-14 months. Therefore, the situation is serious and different kind of containment strategies have been adopted,” he said.
“We are looking at a situation where we want to avoid lockdown but at the same time to contain the situation, we need to put more and more restrictions at least in the Shillong city area,” the CM emphasized.
“We are seeing that more and more returnees are testing positive. We are seeing close to 65% of returnees testing positive, which is a very large and alarming number,” the CM noted.
“Therefore in order to ensure that we are able to contain the spread through these returnees apart from making
RT PCR test mandatory
for them, we are also giving very strong advisory to them to isolate themselves for seven days which means irrespective of whether they test positive or negative in the RT PCR, we are giving a strong advisory to them and their family members that they should isolate themselves for seven days because we are seeing that these returnees have a potential to spread the virus,” the CM said.
