SALEM: The water level in the Stanley Reservoir in Mettur has depleted as there is no rain in the catchment areas of the Cauvery river. The water level in the reservoir stood at 89.66 feet on Thursday. Its full capacity is 120 feet, which it reached during the rains last year.
The inflow into the reservoir, which had been 100 cubic feet per second (cusecs) in the past five days, reduced to 50 cusecs on Thursday.
Water resources department officials were releasing 2,500 cusecs of water from the dam for drinking requirements in Salem city. The release of water for irrigation in the delta districts was stopped in January, as usual.
The inflow at the Hogenakkal waterfalls in Dharmapuri district, which had been 200 cusecs for the past five days, came down to 100 cusecs on Thursday.
