Organ donor buried with state honours in Krishnagiri dist

Krishnagiri: A 30-year-old daily wager, who succumbed to injuries in an accident, was buried with state honours at Kothakottai near Pochampally on Tuesday as his vital organs were donated.S Govindaraj, 30, of Kothakottai village near Pochampally in the district, was a coolie. He was returning home from work around 6.15pm on September 30, when he met with an accident near Samathuvapuram on the Tirupathur-Pochampally state highway. A bike coming from the opposite direction rammed Govindaraj’s bike and he sustained a grave head injury. Krishnagiri district revenue officer A Sadhanaikural said Govindaraj was initially admitted to the government hospital in Pochampally for treatment. Later, he was referred to the government medical college and hospital in Dharmapuri district, where doctors there declared him brain dead on Monday evening. His family decided to donate his organs, after which doctors harvested the organs early on Tuesday morning and handed over the body to his family.

Organ donation: Theni official first to be laid to rest with state honours

A revenue inspector in Theni district, Tamil Nadu, who became brain dead after a road accident has become the first organ donor to be laid to rest with state honours. Chief Minister M K Stalin announced that organ donors will receive a funeral with state honours. The inspector's organs, including kidneys and liver, were transplanted to patients in local hospitals. The state is known for its pioneering work in organ transplants, with over 6,000 patients waiting for kidneys and over 4,000 waiting for livers.

Ktaka bandh hits normalcy in Krishnagiri

A one-day bandh in Karnataka affected normalcy in Krishnagiri district as police stopped vehicles bound for Bengaluru, not allowing any with Tamil Nadu registration to operate beyond Hosur. Commuters were forced to alight from buses at the border and take vehicles with Karnataka registration. Owners of mini vans and autorickshaws took advantage of the situation and increased fares. Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Truck Owners Federation decided not to operate vehicles in Karnataka due to damage to Tamil Nadu trucks. The bandh in Bengaluru opposing the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu was peaceful.
