Man, 65, beaten to death by neighbours

Salem: A 65-year-old

man

was beaten to death by his neighbours at Ammapet in Salem on Monday. Police arrested three persons, including a woman, in connection with the case on Tuesday morning.

The Ammapet police identified the deceased as K Arumugam,

65

, a resident of Babu Nagar in Ammapet. He was a construction worker.

“On Monday night, while Arumugam was sitting outside his house, his neighbour V Murali, 34, came home in an inebriated condition. It seems Arumugam chided him for drinking regularly. Irked over this, Murali attacked Arumugam. Seeing this, Murali’s mother Mathammal, 60, and brother Saravanan, 32, also started beating Arumugam with wooden logs,” a police officer said. “Arumugam who suffered severe head injuries, died on the spot,” the officer added.

The Ammapet police have registered a case and arrested Murali, his mother and his brother. The accused were lodged at the Salem central prison in judicial custody.
