Water inflow at Hogenakkal waterfalls increases to 25k cusecs

Dharmapuri/Salem: The water inflow at the Hogenakkal waterfalls shot up to 25,000 cusecs from 22,000 cusecs on Sunday after Karnataka released water from the Krishnaraja Sagar and Kabini dams on Saturday.Karnataka authorities released water at the rate of 23,879 cusecs, of which 17,529 cusecs were from the Krishnaraja Sagar dam and 6,350 cusecs from the Kabini dam. The move comes in the wake of significant water inflow at these dams caused by incessant rainfall in their catchment areas.“The water released from the dams reached Hogenakkal waterfalls on Saturday evening and then flowed towards the Mettur dam, the next morning,” a water resources department (WRD) official said.This resulted in the water inflow at the Mettur dam increasing from 6,396 cusecs to 14,000 cusecs. “This may increase further on Monday. At present, the dam’s water level stands at 115.56 feet against its full capacity of 120 feet,” the official said.The WRD officials are currently releasing water at the rate of 14,162 cusecs from the dam towards the delta districts for irrigation purposes and 1000 cusecs for drinking water purposes.

Tungabhadra dam nears full capacity with 92tmcft of water

The Tungabhadra reservoir currently holds 92.4 tmcft of water, benefiting farmers and communities alike. After a temporary gate was installed following damage, water levels have risen steadily.
