SALEM: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has wished actor Vijay success for his political party’s first conference in Vikravandi in Villupuram district on Oct 27.
“He is a prominent film actor. He has a huge fan following. Now he wants to serve people and hence floated a party. My wishes for his first conference,” EPS told reporters in Salem on Tuesday.
On the alleged challenges posed by police to TVK’s conference, EPS said hurdles are thrown for all opposition parties, not just for TVK.
EPS then reiterated his statement that there were fissures in the DMK alliance and that ‘anything’ could happen in the next one-and-a-half years when the state would go for assembly election. He said the Left parties have expressed views against DMK govt in the recent past, while Congress leader Trichy Velusamy has criticised Dravidar Kazhagam for remarks made against late Congress stalwart K Kamaraj at an event organised by the outfit. “VCK too has sounded a warning bell. So we have to wait and see if the alliance will continue or not,” EPS said.
EPS said all the alliance parties in ruling front are placing demands before the DMK. “A storm has brewed. Lets see hoaw its going to gain strength,” he said.
Asked if AIADMK would take into its fold those parties that might step out of DMK alliance, EPS said such decisions would be taken only during the time of elections. “Decisions on alliance will be taken depending upon the prevailing political circumstances,” he said.
EPS however said that AIADMK would form a grand alliance for 2026 assembly election. When asked if AIADMK will agree to a coalition govt if it wins 2026 elections, EPS was non committal.
Earlier, addressing party functionaries at a meeting, EPS hit out at deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin. “He is only 46 years old. But my political experience itself is 50 years,” he said.
