Deputy director general of the Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andamans NCC directorate, commodore S Raghav said in a statement on Monday that no official NCC camp took place at this particular private school in Krishnagiri.

He described the camp as fraudulent and noted that the institution is neither registered nor affiliated with the NCC.

The school had organized the fraudulent NCC camp on its premises from August 5 to 9, which saw the participation of 41 students, including 16 girls.

The female students were accommodated in the school's auditorium during the camp. It was at this four-day ‘camp’ that the NCC officer of the school Sivaraman, 30, from Kaveripattinam, sexually assaulted the Class 8 girl, police said.

Commodore Raghav said, “Associating the fraudulent camp with NCC was a clear case of misinformation and misrepresentation, which could lead to misunderstandings regarding the involvement of NCC personnel.”

Though the Bargur police arrested seven individuals, including the correspondent and principal of the school for attempting to hush up the issue, on Sunday, Sivaraman was elusive. He was however arrested late on Sunday night in Coimbatore.

Police said he suffered a fracture in his right leg when he attempted to flee after the special police team rounded him up. He has been admitted to the Krishnagiri district government medical college and hospital.

“He attempted to escape and jumped into a pit, suffering the fracture,” Krishnagiri SP P Thangadurai said.
