Dumka: A 50-year-old tribal man was killed by unidentified assailants in Kairasol village under Borio police station limits of Sahibganj district late on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Badka Murmu, 50. Badka served as the village Naiki (priest). Preliminary probe indicated that he was murdered using a sharp-edged weapon, police said.
He is survived by his wife, a son and four daughters.
Upon being informed, a police team led by sub-inspector (SI) Siddharth Toppo reached the spot and recovered the body from a drain near the agricultural field of Shyam Murmu on Friday.
Police said injury marks were found on the victim’s face and ear, indicating he was attacked with a sharp weapon, and bloodstains were found at the crime scene. Badka’s body spotted in the morning by a villager who was taking his cattle to his fields.
Locals said Badka attended the wedding of Shiv Marandi’s daughter and conducted rituals. Marandi said, “We are clueless how Badka, who was present at the wedding until late at night, ended up dead at a secluded location about 500 metres from the venue.”
Badka’s wife Marangmay Tudu, demanded immediate arrests. “The matter is being investigated,” SI said.
