Sindri: Vocalist and disciple of Padma Vibhushan recipient Girija Devi, Debapriya Adhikary, has sought chief minister Raghubar Das's intervention for setting up a Sangeet Natak Academy in Jharkhand to promote classical and other forms of music.

Adhikary, while talking to media on Wednesday, expressed concern over the lack of interest in promoting art and culture in the state and said, "there was no dearth of talent in Jharkhand". "The state government needs to take the initiative to provide the youth a platform to showcase their talent," said Adhikary.

Debapriya, a Sindri native who completed his masters in music from Calcutta University, was in news recently for his documentary on Girija Devi. The film bagged the best documentary (feature) award at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival. Adhikary and his friend,

Samanwaya Sarkar, founded a non-profit trust called 'Sublime Urge to Rejoice' (SUR) to provide free music training to underprivileged children. "Tribal art in Jharkhand is fading because the government is not promoting it," said Adhikary.
