Rats bite body at Garhwa hospital, civil surgeon gets notice

GARHWA: Garhwa civil surgeon Awadhesh Singh has been showcaused on Tuesday after rats nibbled at the body of a dead woman at the sadar hospital on Monday.

Deputy commissioner Shekhar Jamuar said, "I have sought his explanation into the entire issue. Those at fault will be held accountable."

The body of Sonri Musharin, a resident of Bana village under Meral police station limits of Garhwa, who reportedly died at home was brought to the hospital for autopsy, but was kept outside in the open the whole night. The post-mortem, scheduled at night, was postponed till Tuesday morning.

'Chowkidar took body to hosp'
Nitish Kumar, Meral police station officer in-charge said, "The body was sent to sadar hospital with a chowkidar who had handed it over to a health worker. It was the responsibility of the hospital to ensure it was kept in a proper condition. We are awaiting postmortem report for further action." The on-duty health worker Raj Kumar, however, said he had gone home after his night duty.
