Ranchi woman gives birth at Latehar rly stn

Daltonganj: A 25-year-old woman of Ranchi, identified as Basanti Devi, delivered a healthy baby boy at the Tori railway station in Latehar district on Wednesday at 3am.
Station superintendent of the Tori railway station Ranjit Kumar said, “The woman was in acute labour pain on platform number 1 around 3am. I rang the community health centre (CHC) located at Chandwa and the 108 ambulance. I requested the other women passengers to help this woman. The ambulance arrived with an ANM from the CHC but the woman had delivered the baby by then.”
Basanti Devi was travelling from Ranchi to Barwadeeh with her three-year-old daughter when she developed labour pain. She got down at Tori, he added.
The medical officer in-charge of the CHC, Dr Neelima Kumari, said, “The woman delivered a boy on the railway station. Our ANM, Merry Topno, cut the umbilical cord. The mother has been administered post-delivery care and the child immunised. Both are doing fine.”
