RANCHI: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Rai organised a seminar on the theme, ‘Accelerating change to solve the water and sanitation crises’, on the occasion of World Water Day on Wednesday.
Gomia MLA Lamodar Mahto said, “I urge the citizens and youngsters to preserve water for sustainable development. A 2017 UNICEF report states that six million children will live in regions with extreme water scarcity in the next two decades.”
The attendees raised questions about the conservation of groundwater and water bodies during the open house session. The experts shared water management and conservation techniques.
The former registrar of the Jharkhand Raksha Shakti University, MK Jamuar, said, “We aimed to generate awareness among the youths about the importance of water and ways to conserve it. Every individual is required to act in this.”
Meanwhile, the students of Cambrian Public School made posters and face paintings on the topic, ‘Accelerating Change’. Principal Neeta Pandey stressed upon the need to keep water clean and store water through various means, such as rain water harvesting. “The students participated in activities to appreciate the measures taken to conserve water and prevent water pollution,” she added.
Similarly, at DAV Alok School, the students created models and drawings on the theme, ‘Save Water’. Principal Ashok Kumar said, “Each year, we organise activities to generate awareness among the students about the importance of water.”
