Man shot dead in Sahibganj, cops suspect criminal links

DUMKA: A 28-year-old man, identified as Rakesh Sharma, was shot dead by unidentified criminals at Sakchharta Chowk under Jirwabadi police station of Sahibganj district late on Wednesday night, police said on Thursday. Three men accompanying him have been detained for interrogation, police said.

Superintendent of police Noushad Alam said Sharma's murder has links to a gangster who is currently behind bars at Sahibganj jail. "Sharma, along with the three others, had links with a gangster. The four men were due to meet someone and collect extortion money when Sharma was fired at. One of the three men also received bullet injuries on his palm. All the three are being interrogated," Alam said, refusing to reveal the identities of the gangster and the three men.

After Sharma was fired at, the three men took him to Sahibganj sadar hospital and abandoned him at the gate. Soon, doctors at the hospital pronounced Sharma brought dead.
