Man drowns in river while filming reels
Jamshedpur: Personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Tuesday recovered the body of a 23-year-old man from the Subarnarekha river in Seraikela-Kharsawan district after he drowned while filming a reel on Monday evening, police said. The deceased was identified as Prem Kumar alias Bablu, a resident of Panchavati Nagar under Sonari police station limits in East Singhbhum.
Police said Bablu had travelled to the banks of the river for a leisure trip with his friend, Ashudev Kumar. The duo reportedly took photographs along the riverbank initially. Trouble began when Bablu ventured deeper into the waters while Ashudev was recording a reel.
During the filming, Bablu suddenly lost his footing, moved into deeper waters, and went under. Local fishermen rushed to the spot when Ashudev screamed for help, and police were immediately alerted.
A search operation commenced shortly after the incident and continued late into the evening. NDRF personnel joined the rescue efforts early on Tuesday.
“The body was fished out from a place close to where he had drowned,” said Shiv Prakash Kumar, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Chandil.
