RANCHI: Jharkhand chief minister Champai Soren asked
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the opposition INDIA bloc partners to draw inspiration from his predecessor
Hemant Soren, who struggled against the central agencies and went to jail instead of giving in to them.
“In Jharkhand, we have already fought the central agencies like the ED, CBI and the I-T. Our young leader, Hemant Soren, did not bow to their pressure and kept fighting to save the democratic values and ideals of the country.
He was arrested over a plot of land whose records did not have a mention of his name. Likewise, there was no record against Arvind Kejriwal and he, too, was arrested based on a statement,” the 68-year-old chief minister said.
Terming the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre “dictatorial”, Champai told the gathering, “Today is your day to take the resolution that you will remove this dictatorship through the power of your votes.”
Besides Champai, Hemant’s wife Kalpana also attended the rally and took centre stage along with Kejriwal’s wife Sunita. Earlier on Saturday, Kalpana met Sunita at the latter’s residence on Flag Staff Road and offered her support to her jailed husband.
Kalpana, who grabbed eyeballs at the rally which was held in Mumbai on March 17 to mark the conclusion of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, spoke ahead of Champai for more than a minute in the Delhi rally. “On this day two months ago, my husband was arrested by the ED. It has been 10 days since Kejriwal Ji was also arrested,” she said.
Asserting that people from tribal communities have a long history of struggle and sacrifice, Kalpana said BJP’s guarantee only means destroying the values and ideals which have been laid down in the Constitution.
“The NDA is destroying the Constitution, unemployment is at an all-time high and inflation has hit the roof. People, who think that one individual or a party is all-powerful, are mistaken. It is the people of this country who are all-powerful,” Kalpana added.
