Sources said Mohammad Shahnawaz was the only child of Mohammad Juffran of Dadi Bakchoma village in Simaria. Juffran said his son, who was a student of Class III, had been suffering from a fever for the last few days. The child was taken to Sana Medical, a retail medicine shop, on Tandwa Road on Monday afternoon. Juffran said the two staff of the shop checked the boy and said he had malaria and typhoid.

'Quacks' fled after protest
They then administered him an injection and suggested a few medicines. But within minutes, Shahnawaz's condition deteriorated. The two "quacks" advised the family to take the kid to the Simaria referral hospital. But the doctors at the Simaria hospital referred him to Hazaribag. The kid, however, died on the way to Hazaribag. The family then went to the medical shop with the body and started protesting after which the two staff fled. The protest was called off only when the district officials went to the shop and assured the family members of action. On Tuesday, the officer-in-charge of the Simaria police station, Vivek Kumar, said, "We are waiting for a complaint from the parents of the deceased to lodge an FIR. We have sent the body for postmortem. After the FIR, further action will be initiated."
