Dhanbad: Alleging that not a single development project was undertaken within the urban circle for several years, BJP MLA Raj Sinha on Monday began an indefinite strike against the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC). Accusing DMC of becoming inactive and indifferent, Sinha began his sit-in with his supporters at the main gate of the civic body’s office. Sinha claimed that the ongoing probe by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) into the Rs 200 crore tender scam during the tenure of former mayor Chandrashekhar Agarwal has become an excuse for the DMC for not performing any civic duties, Sinha said, “For the last six years, Dhanbad has witnessed no streetlight installation, no road construction, no drainage repairs, and no new civic work. Yet, DMC to collect user charges from citizens. This is sheer injustice to the people of Dhanbad.”
Sinha claimed that lack of funds was stalling development work. “The state govt diverted funds to the Maiya Samman Yojana, leaving DMC financially crippled. Due to this mismanagement, all development activities in the district have come to a standstill,” he added.
