JAMSHEDPUR: In an attempt to thwart accidents during heavy rain, thunderstorm and lightning, the East Singhbhum district administration has issued guidelines for the residents.

Among other things, the DC, Vijaya Jadhav, appealed to the people not to stand under overhead transmission lines during thunderstorm and rain. Besides, people have been told to not touch sagging wire and refrain from coming close to transformers and electric poles.

The DC also told the people not to tie livestock to the electric pole, as it could invite risk during rain.

Further, the DC has issued phone numbers of the executive engineers of the Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd, (JBVNL) and appealed to people to call on the numbers to get uprooted poles removed from the ground.

The uprooted branches of the trees that fall on the transmission lines due to heavy wind will be removed by the electric department men, people need not do that voluntarily, the DC said.

The mobile phone numbers issued by the DC are of executive engineer, Jamshedpur division (9431135915); executive engineer, Mango division (9431135905); and executive engineer, Ghatshila division (9431135917). The DC said that CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) is advisable for those hit by lightning. Besides, the person should be immediately given first-aid treatment.

On Wednesday, the JBVNL, Jamshedpur circle, general manager, Shravan Kumar, issued an appeal to the people to avoid coming in contact of transmission lines, transformers and electric poles during heavy rain, thunderstorm and lightning.

The appeal of the state electricity board GM was made in the wake of the June 25 incident, in which a woman died after coming in contact with an electric pole in Delhi railway station.

Between March 2022 and May 2023, a total of 10 people have lost their lives and four have been hurt in separate incidents of lightning and electric shock incidents in different parts of the district.

Besides, an elephant got killed in Jaduguda when she came in contact with a sagging overhead transmission line in December 2022.
