Illegal sand, stone mining: 27 trucks seized in Ranchi

Ranchi: District mining officials here seized 27 trucks, which were allegedly used in ferrying illegally mined sand and stone chips, over the past two days under different police stations of the district, officials said on Wednesday."Eighteen trucks, including 15 loaded with sand and three with stone chips, were seized in surprise inspections under Mesra, Daladali, Tupudana, Bedo and Lapung police station limits, on Tuesday night. Steps for registration of FIR against 54 persons including the truck owners, drivers and helpers have been started," the administration said in a statement. Similarly, 11 trucks loaded with sand were seized under Namkum and Angara police station areas on Monday. Drivers of all the vehicles managed to escape.Ranchi DC Manjunath Bhajantri had taken a serious view of the complaints related to illegal mining and transportation and had asked mining department to take action. District mining officer Mohammad Abu Hussain said. "The drive has been intensified after the DC's order. Areas including Bundu, Silli and Chapar are sensitive spots."
